Progress will be made on joint study programmes and the creation of international research institutes and laboratories. The meeting of the European University of Technology, which is being held in Cartagena for the first time, will give new impetus to this technological supercampus made up of eight universities from eight European Union countries. Also next week, within the framework of EUt+, a scientific meeting on nanotechnology and an event for students interested in entrepreneurship will be held.

The 100 or so representatives from the seven partners of the Polytechnic in the EUt+ consortium attending the event will participate in meetings held at the Muralla del Mar campus and the Administration Building from Tuesday to Friday. Researchers, students and non-academic staff from the polytechnics of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Darmstadt (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Limassol (Cyprus), Riga (Latvia), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Troyes (France) will attend.

The meeting will further progress in the joint academic programmesin addition to the common degrees in Civil, Mechanical and Telecommunications Engineering already being developed. "We are also working to reach agreements to create new international research institutes," says the Rector’s delegate for EUt+, Rafael Toledo.

One of the institutes already created, the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Institute, is also holding a scientific meeting next week in Cartagena, which will feature some thirty presentations by experts in this field from the eight universities. "It will be in person and online and will be recorded for open access. We will deal with a wide range of topics related to the nanometric scale of matter, from photonics to biomedicine, as well as quantum technologies and applications in electronics and biology," explains workshop coordinator and UPCT researcher Prof. Javier Cerrillo.

The meeting will also help organise the second phase of the 'Innovate European University of Technology' (Inno-EUt+) project, in which "we will increase the number and intensity of the actions to promote entrepreneurship that are already being carried out," says Antonia Madrid, coordinator of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the European University of Technology.
