Since the latest 90's, when the European legal framework relating to human protection against risks associated to non ionizing electromagnetic fields exposure was being determined, GEM researchers have dedicated big efforts in order to design measurement procedures and methods and to evaluate and adapt environments to comply with different laws (national and European), taking part of the normalization committee AEN/CTN 215 about equipments and measurement methods related to electromagnetic fields in the human environment.
As an independent entity, they have carried out certification activities for some of the most important mobile phone companies in Spain. They have also closely cooperated with public administrations in order to regulate and achieve an organized installation of radioelectric infrastructures, complementing those activities with divulgation and teaching actions.
Nowadays GEM is being positioned as one of the main national workgroups in evaluating risks related to the exposition of workers to electromagnetic non ionizing fields at their workplaces, developing acting protocols and validating work environments according to the European Council Directive 2004/40.
